Marine Pollution: MOE Nakagawa is “Hopeful of a Ban on Plastic Bags”
In response to JNN’s series on marine pollution from plastic waste, the Minister of the Environment, Masaharu Nakagawa referred to the issue as “a critical one for Japan” in an interview. In the future, he hopes plastic bags are either banned, or require a fee.
The Minister of the Environment, Masaharu Nakagawa made the above statement regarding marine pollution due to plastic waste and has indicated the need for a world-wide initiative.
Regarding the 30 million plastic bags used in Japan annually, Nakagawa stated the importance of controlling the amount discarded, and hopes to ban or charge for plastic bags in the future.
